Gray Hart Fen

The Gray Hart Fen is a unique and rare type of wetland that is nourished by groundwater rather than rain or surface water. This constant supply of mineral-rich water creates a special habitat where more than 200 different plant species can grow. Among these are 25 species that are considered threatened or endangered in Iowa, making the fen an important place for biodiversity and conservation.
